Title: Rep points
Post by: motorollin on May 25, 2009, 05:58:54 PM
I haven't filed this in Projects as it might just be a misunderstanding. On the User CP panel on the home page, my rep points are shown as 11. But if I actually go in to my profile, it says 27. Also, how do I find out how many rep points another user has?

Rep points and rep power are two different things.

The rep power influences how much of a difference your repping makes to others. i.e how many rep points they get from you

Rep power is based an a few different criteria such as post count, current rep points etc..

See here for another explanation: http://forums.liveleak.com/showthread.php?p=9568

on other boards this is desplayed by having two numbers next to each other

like:

1 :  300

power is the 1st number, your own points that you have accumulated is the second

in other words when that 1 : 300 person gives someone a good 'rep' they give whomever ONE rep.

if their numbers looked like this:
3 : 4000
they could give 3 reps

Thanks GM. So how do I see how many rep points other users have?

I don't think that feature is enabled. Is it really needed?

If you mouse over the little green square under the users post count, it will give you an idea where that person stands, I imagine as time goes by, you will get more green sqaures (or red squares) as your rep builds (or dies).

It's not needed, but it seems a bit pointless to have a system of rep points if you can't see how many people have, firstly to put your own in context, and secondly to see how reputable the community considers a particular user to be.

Now that you understand the way it works it might be an idea to open a feature request then. ;)

Agree that Amiga-themed comments should prevail. This distinguishes us from the flood of other boards.

At least one of them (Guru Meditator) is already Amiga-themed :)

We can always change them.  The issue is getting anyone to agree on what to change them TO.  Then you have the politically correct crowd who'll bitch because it's McEwen and not that other smeghead, etc.

Nominate a few ranks and have a poll to see what people like. Or you could just pick the ones that amuse you. There has to be some benefit of being the site admin ;)

You obviously haven't had this job before.  I can't change a pixel without someone :furious: about it.  :-)

The benefit comes when the to-do list is done and I can go back to ignoring everything for another 10 years.. :-)

Ah, but this is a feature nobody has had time to get used to yet. Also, the hardcore miserables all left when you changed the site, right?
