A3000 int, SCSI problem
« on: March 12, 2005, 12:10:44 PM »
Finally getting somewhere with my infamous SCSI problem.
Have a Cyberstorm MKII '060 card which I want to use in my A3000 but when it's connected no boot signal is sent to my HDD which is connected to the A3000 SCSI controller, I just get the 3.1 kick screen (have installed the CS MKII system disk).
I just tried to boot without any ram at all on the CS MKII and it works! I boot into WB3.1...finally some progress!...have no fastram either on the mobo in the zip sockets.
Have now tried several different simm's I have...8 meg's, 16 megs, 32 megs..different brands & speed but without any luck.
Have two, three more simm's to try here after I've emptied my cup of coffee.
Anyone have an idea what's going on with my A3000? have ordered chip upgrades for my A3000 (latest Ramsey, Dmac & Buster, already upgraded the WD chip)and hope it will solve the problem.

Sorry I can't help you.  All I can do is confirm that I had the same issues with my A3000 and a CyberStorm MKII 060.  I tried RAMSEY / DMAC / BUSTER chip upgrades, and also applied the INT2 hack.  Still no go.  I didn't take the time to swap SIMMs, but doubt that's the solution.  I've seen other members have mentioned earlier boards have a DMA issue causing this, with no resolution except to find a later 'fixed' revision.  I ended up selling the board and getting a WarpEngine, which works fine.

Good luck.

Too bad they didn't make an '060 version.
A 040 is too slow for my meeds right now.
Luckily I have two A4000 on the way to me which this board should be plug & pray in.
Would be cool if this board worked in my A3000 instead  :-(

Did you set the A3000 motherboard jumpers correctly?
Are you sure that all of the motherboard ram is gone, except for 2MB chip ram?

DMA problem or not, every CSMK2 should work in A3000, providing that you remove the motherboard fast ram, if any memory on the CSMK2 is installed (in case you do have a DMA bug in your CSMK2).

Have you got the 08 version of WD Scsi chip? This chip improves SCSI performance and compatibility with drives, with A2091 and A3000 native SCSI controllers.

Yep, all set = nothing changed
And all fast ram removed, only had 4meg in the zip ram sockets which is completely removed.
Have alse installed the latest WD SCSI cip, rev 8.
Can it be the other chips then which need to be upgraded?
The one's I have in now are A3000 "stock" chips, my motherboard is rev 9.0

You have a late revision A3000 motherboard. It should definitely work. This doesn't make sense. :-(

Have you tried another accelerator card in the A3000 CPU slot? Perhaps it needs cleaning. I've seen this before with a Warp Engine 3040. My A3000 wouldn't recognize it until I cleaned the CPU slot as it was apparantly dirty.

Once you receive an A4000 unit, try the CSMK2 in it and see if it'll work. If not, it could be a defective CSMK2 card.

Have another '060 card but it's at Amiga Center in France for repairs..a CS MKIII
The card is recognized in showconfig in WB3.1 and in early startup menu so dunno about poor contact.
The pins also looks 100% ok both on the mobo and on the card.

If his MKII card has the DMA bug, he needs to remove the RAM on the MKII card and put RAM back onto the A3000's MB.  If it boots this way he has a bad MKII card.

Will try this.
So does this mean it won't even work in an A4000?   :-o

My MKII 060 tested fine in an A4000, just wouldn't work in my A3000.  You shouldn't have any problems in a 4000 either.  Can't explain why it won't work in an A3000...

Oh well..
Hope Amiga Center in France can fix the broken CPU socket on the CS MKIII I sent them so I can beef up my A3000 with it and put the CS MKII in one of the A4000.  :-)

The buggy MKII card will work in the A4000 as long as there is no SCSI installed.  Works fine with IDE.
