What's up with that? I usually get it when I try and open a page someone pasted on IRC or something.
Frankly, I don't understand why it needs to log me in, as afaik most AO pages are available to everyone (registered or not).
I wouldn't mind if it then took me to the page I wanted in the first place, but after "logging me in" it takes me to the front page, so i usually end up having to open the link twice to get where I want to go.
:-?

You sure it's not a cookie thing or something? I think I've had that problem in the past, but haven't noticed it in recent times .
-
I don't *think* it is, I'm using the default cookie settings in Firefox (enabled - accept cookies normally) and it can't be a corrupted cookie, because I have the same problem under Windows and Mandrake (and the Mandrake one has been installed and uninstalled several times because of another problem i had).
What puzzles me is that it tries to log in just to view a forum page. Does that mean that unregistered users can't view pages via an external link at all?

Could it be the actual "Store cookie for 1 year" option in your A.o account prefs?

I have a similar problem.
I like to keep pages open so that I can follow the threads. However after a certain amount of time, hitting reload (or the same happens if I reopen my browser) makes it display some "automatically logging you in" message (or something like that), and it then redirects to the amiga.org front page. However, I have now lost the page I was viewing (I can't click back to take me to the original page)! So now it's very hard to follow any threads on amiga.org :(
I've tried changing the "Store cookie for 1 year" option, but it makes no difference either way.

Try setting the 'keep cookie for 1 year' then logging out and back in. I've had this over at AmigaWorld and MorphZone before, both of whom have a similar setting.

I've tried playing a bit with that setting, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
I did notice, though, that if I log out of AO and close the window, it works fine. Also unticking the "remember me" box at the log in works.
But then I have to log in every time :o
-
:-? On AW and MZ it just went away, though at both the "1 Year" lasts about a week, lol!
-
Unticking the "Remember Me" box when logging in "fixes" the problem - but now I get logged out after a short amount of time (even though I haven't closed the browser in the meantime, and even though I have the "store cooking for 1 year" option set).
So I guess that (a) for whatever reason I'm getting logged out after a very short amount of time, and (b) the "Remember Me" option causes a redirection to the Amiga.org front page, somehow wiping the history of whatever page I was looking at.
I don't know if it is a browser problem - I'm using Opera 7.50.
-
I don't think it's a browser problem, I've used quite a lot of Opera versions since 7.01 (I think) and it's never done that with me. I'm using 7.5 too.

Guys,
It's a known bug, and there's nothing we can do about it. It is, in fact, one of the reasons we've considered getting rid of Xoops altogether.

Ah, I never knew that.

Ah, I must have missed that too, thanks for clearing that up.

I made a few changes today, which would have either completely broken everything, or might have actually fixed the problem. Might not have even changed anything. Only the shadow knows.

Well I can post comments in the gallery again, so I'm happy
