Title: n00b question
Post by: 76838028 on January 31, 2008, 11:13:29 PM
Howdy.
I was wondering, is there an easy and authentic way to get Microsoft Windows Vista to look exactly like the Amiga Workbench?
I have heared that a program called WindowBlinds makes it look like it but it isn't free.
I also heared that there is a version of the AmigaOS that works on a PC? Is that true and if so, where is it please?
Failing that what emulator is recommended? WinUAE or Amiga Forever or something else?

My system is:
AMD 64 Dual Core
2 nVidia 8800 Ultimate overclocked GFX cards in SLi config
1TB HDD
4GB RAM

So should be able to run most emulators.
I'd rather have Amiga style on my PC as unfortunately the PC runs my daily needed programs that my A4000 doesn't.

I also have Ubuntu Linux (Fiesty Fawn) as my system is dual boot, so if there is a conversion for that please?

In my experience i would recommend WINUAE or Amiga Forever. As for the Amiga OS for the pc (if you mean installing it like windows or linux ) i highly doubt it as the is no such thing.

WinUAE (http://www.winuae.net/) is a highly recommended Amiga emulator under Windows.
On Linux you can try E-UAE (http://www.rcdrummond.net/uae/).

For both those emulators you need a legal Amiga rom image, either from a real Amiga or from Amiga Forever.

Native AmigaOS on a PC? Hmm. Perhaps you're thinking of the Amiga Research Operating System (AROS) (http://aros.sourceforge.net/)? It's not really mature enough for real use yet, but it's getting there.

Hope that helps.

or amithlon is the closest u will get to native amiga os on pc, its basically a modified linux, but to all intensive purposes is amigaos.  You cany but this anymore though somebody might be able to sell you a copy.

only works with os friendly apps that dont use the custome chipset.  but is very very fast.  it does have quite small chipset and cpu support though i beleive someone is still doing work on the kernel and drivers.

search around on the net for more info

You may have heard about Amithlon which was just like having OS3.9 running in your PC. I don't think you can buy it now though.
