Title: Playstation Network hacked. What a shame...
Post by: Kesa on May 02, 2011, 02:12:30 PM
So the Playstation Network got hacked. What a shame. Lucky i didn't have any credit card details on there :)

My only regret is that it happened to Sony and not Apple itunes. That would have been really something. But being realistic Sony have only themselves to blame, maybe they should look after their data better by incrypting it. Sure the network would still have been hacked but at least the data would have been safe. I'm not convinced the hackers were after credit card details anyway, they might be just resentful users who were shut out of the 'other os'

Just wondering did anyone on Amiga.org get hacked?

I didn't; the most recent console I own is a Wii (technically my wife's).

But this "zomg sony got hacked so it's all good" mentality is bullshit.  "sony" didn't get their data compromised, a bunch of people who couldn't give a shit about your nerdrage zomg I can't run linux here therefore sony=hitler mindset are the ones who suffered.  Saying "yay sony got hacked" is tantamount to saying "yay those people got their houses broken in to, well I didn't like the mayor of that town so it serves them right".

But what do I know?  That may well be how you view the world.

P.S. : I could find thrown away computers to run Linux on if I wanted.  So could every other screeching fanboy, but I guess they'd just have to find another cross to climb up on if they did that.

Yeah, I did.

I don't even like Sony, the only reason I use the PS3 (It's my housemates one) is to play Super Stardust.

The most hilarious thing about that video is the "but in Australia, we don't give the criminals a hand shake and say 'yeah, well done son'"

As for the rest - he's talking out of his shitter, clueless bastard.

Great video! Seems like a good rational bloke :)

But to blame hackers is wrong. In negligence you are supposed to adopt the strategy of prevention from idiots. Hackers are idiots so you can't blame them for what they have done. If we blamed all the idiots for all the worlds problems we would get nowhere.

But overall my feeling is as much as i love Sony and the ps3 i still like to see the big boys get stepped on once in a while. I only wish it happened to Apple instead.

Anyone hacking my PSN account will fall asleep from boredom.

The video gave me a few laughs. Got to agree with his point about people running out to get more windows though they've been burned over and over. Spent half a career helping recover and then reinstall more of the same. Oh well.... it pays pretty well.

Lay-dees and Getz! Welcome back to another riveting but friendly session "King of the Forum" I am your host, Quip E. McSnark-snark, and will guide you through the perilous halls of this latest match.

The match starting volley was expertly served by the local favorite, Karlos and boy did he ace it right between the challenger's eyes!

With the score 15-love, Karlos seamed to be off on the right foot but here comes Kesa with a might back hand pointing out that the local chap. QUOTED HIMSELF!!!

This was a blow for Karlos as even an amateur Forum Fighter knows that rule 4-beta-beta-zed clearly states that quoting one’s self seriously is grounds for reversal and an instant scrumm for the ball is to be expected.

And here is the scrumm and... KESA! KESA has the ball with a scrumm breaking self-quote NOT taking himself seriously playing off of Law Zed-zed-zed-wiffle!

What a reversal folks, what a reversal! Kesa is in line for a Try but Karlos is going for a dismiss and get Kesa off the field!

What will happen next? Who will win this game of games? How on earth am I coming up with this scoring system? SOMEBODY STOP ME!!!

Actually in recent times It's become the opposite. A couple of decades ago what you said was true about us and the English we well mannered and educated. But today these roles have reversed themselves. Australians are now what the English were a few years ago and vice versa English to Australians :p

Well, while companies like Apple and Microsoft might product products you don't like, produce adverts which appeal to dumb public and in the later case have engaged in anti-competitive practices... The don't don't sue their users.

Looks at Apple's approach to Hackintosh... They turn a blind eye. Or Jail breaking... They simply lock out the hack in the next OS revision... They don't sue or "go after" the users who do these things. Apple are a bit brighter than incurring the wrath of the hacker community.

Sony did this to themselves, it's the users I feel sorry for.

OK i'll give you that one. But that wasn't the point i was making. I like to see the big companies get knocked down a level sometimes. I think it's healthy. I like to build people up just so i can bash them down again ;)

Yes, and naturally all stereotypes are true.
I dont really drink, Im far from thick, and typically pretty humble. As for misogynistic, what the heck? Where'd you pluck that one from ? Racist ? That'd mean we hate ourselves,.... Australia is just as heavily populated by outside cultures as it is "native" ones. Our population is roughly a 50/50 split. As for Les Patterson, he's a parody. Parodies are based on contorted truths. That's why theyre parodies, because theyre far fetched.

End of the day people are people, some are good, some are bad. Has nothing to do with race, religion, gender, etc. To imply otherwise is pretty narrow minded.

As for the video, what a schmuck. Bad, bad attempt at the style of humor of the Zero Punctuation guy. Additionally somewhat full of hypocricy. Talking about how exaggerated the problem is and then rolling out the nonsense "XB360 RROD so often people have to replace them 3 to 6 times" card (and with no mention of the ps3 hardware issues in the same breath).

Yes but appples approach has always been to use/steal other peoples IP and then settle afterwards.

However as you say its the users who have lost out with their details being stolen and not being able to play online for a week or so.

Though at the same time I have to admit to a bit of a quiet chuckle after years of PS3 owners having a go at me for having to pay to use xbox live, and me trying to point that xbox live better for all sorts of reasons.

I've noticed that too recently... ;)

Sadly it's the first sign of a mid-life crisis... :(

When you suddenly realise you reached a certain age and that younger folk no longer care what you're saying and just look at you and say "who's that old fart, just leave him alone to talk to himself, maybe he'll go away"... :(

So you start saying everything twice and quoting yourself to convince yourself that someone is listening to you and your not over the hill and far away... :)

PS: Once you start wearing slippers and wandering round supermarkets just before closing time looking for stuff that has been reduced in price cos it's reached it's sell buy date, then you know (or at least someone should tell you) it's time for the old folks home and to stop being an oxygen thief and coffin dodger... :)

OI! I do that everyday! Everyday at about 5:30 - 6:30pm they put all the stuff down. Mostly just bread but other stuff too. A couple of days ago i got hamburgers half price so i filled up my fridge full of them :)

P.S. i agree with you on the old fart thing. How old is Karlos anyway? My best guess is 60 ;)

That's a bit harsh, I can't think of any particular example of Apple doing that... They seem to simply buy any company that has IP they want, portal player, touchworks, PA semi, lala, NeXT, etc... Then put out a product based on the tech about 2 years later...

Quite right, it seems they did! Well that seems to have taught them a lesson then, as they have been pretty careful since. :)

-Edit- a link for anyone interested: http://i.tuaw.com/2006/08/23/apple-pays-100m-to-creative-in-patent-lawsuit-settlement/

To give apple their dues, the patent violations were inherited by Apple when they bought PortalPlayer which the iPod is based on :)

Yes i do. But don't worry i know linux and osx are different ;)

I have limited use on osx but have much more on macbuntu so i was just wondering how accurate the 2 are when compared to each other by someone in the know. How accurate is the imitation? Obviously i'm only talking about the mannerisms of the os and not the coding!

Meh, an OS is an OS... Little more than a pretty app launcher... I'll use whatever has the Apps I need/want...

My preference for Apple comes from my desire to program in Objective-C which is the language OSX and its derivatives are written in :)

Well put, I used DOSSHELL on my old 486 instead of Windows 3.1 based on this very logic. All the apps I liked ran better in PCDOS anyway. Sadly these days I can't avoid Windows due to studying with the Open University. Such is life.

I love how they tried to blame this on Anon 'distracting' them.  If anything, the DDoS attacks should have had them on high alert and the server should have been secured.
