Online Gaming (FPS) with the Amiga.org members
« on: September 27, 2003, 05:00:32 PM »
OK i got  your attention..

Some of us on the #Amiga.org IRC channel have played a few times online against each other on some of the more popular FPS in the Win/linux market,  ok it was mostly Q3A demo which kinda sucked but its what most of us could get are hands on at the time,  but it was fun all the same.

Anyway, i thought it be kinda cool if you could vote on what you do play online in the pick of FPS out there and maybe we could all meet up once a week or so and kick each others arse.  We would  probably have to use public servers as private costs money and i dont know of anyone who has the bandwidth to host online games for alot of players for us for free :-)

Some choices of games could be UT, MOHAA, ET and things like that.

it's just an early  idea so feel free to kick some ideas about.

Feel free also to move this to talk about if you feel it's better suited.

Interesting idea, /me kicka your a$$ on Q3A though mang.

Don't have much here except for demos and games that are a few years old, but willing to pay 50 some bucks for a new game (been long enough)

I have allways been a succer for "Soldier of Fortune". I have not tried SOF2 though ...

But I like C&C type of games better, like Red Allert 2, and my alltime (now quite old) favourite - StarCraft!
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :)

I think Day of Defeat would be cool. I get very good pings even on servers in the UK or US  :-) . Oh yeah and it is cheap

Think of it like this,  it's a much better way of taking your frustrations out that builds up inside when people post those posts that up the blood pressure   :-D
Keep the boards clean, take it out on the battlefield  ;-)  :destroy:

Wouldn't games that run on an Amiga be a better choice for an Amiga-themed channel?

@KennyR

Quake is really quite a boring game, in my book ... I would love
Genetic Species or Payback to be online multiplayer, but alas ...

Quake II should work I suppose. Heretic II and Shogo
perhaps. But I would have to run that on my PC anyhow,
since my Amiga isn't up for it.

All I can think of. Any other suggetions?

Of course but the majority who come here have access to a PC capable of running FPS and they are quite popular.

When OS4 comes, i will be very interested in that myself :-)
It could bring the Red and Blue teams to a whole new level ;-)

My favourite on-line FPS is Natural Selection. Since it's a Half-Life mod it's cheap and doesn't need the latest hardware to run. So that's my suggestion.

ET is a nice alternative too, as it's free and available for both Windows and Linux, although demanding more from the hardware.

You could try this .

The Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory FREE stand alone multiplayer game has been released to the world! It's fun, addicting and full of Wolf love! You don't need RtCW to play ET. What you need is what you download!

download from here http://www.planetwolfenstein.com/files/files.shtml
I once had an amigaone xe but sold it .

lets have a BIG duel in this ...

and later on..lets get UAE kalliera and play with that on some real AMIGA classic games :)

people who mention non amiga games should get a foot in their butt for now :)
