Worst amiga games of all time
« on: September 27, 2004, 03:43:29 AM »
I see many old amiga games for sale on e-bay, etc. Some of which do not have reviews, or are reviewed by nostalgic idiots who rate defender of the crown with five stars. Please post your top five suckiest amiga games here, so ppl don't get caught paying $5 a piece for something which is not even worth the time it takes to download the ADF (but, YOU SHOULD OF COURSE BUY THE DAMN THING IF YOU WANT TO PLAY IT).

1. circus games - this was the first game I ever bought. avoid! (unless you're a masochist)
2. abracadabra - you would finish it in your first sitting, if you fight the urge to reset and mangle the disks.
3. bad cat - an apt name (it is BAAAD indeed). you play the role of a cat, and you do some pointless stuff in four game sections, which you see all of even if you suck at joystick waggling.
4. flip it and magnose - ...the water carriers from mars (here to nick all our precious h20). frustrating, tedious, and even when you meet the quota on level six (the final) it still gives you the same old game over (it tells you that you lose).
5. defender of the crown - this one is waaay overrated by almost everyone, and you will finish it on your first go (unless you suck). OK, so the gfx are nice for something made in the 80's which runs on 512k, but there is even less gameplay than dragon's lair.

To think I actually payed good money for these all those years ago is enough to make me suicidal (i.e. play lemmings, it should never appear on this list). :-D

Lemmings 2 would be very close to making this list though.

Yea,

Defender of the Crown game for the C64 was a pain in the arse, but the Music was great.

I always though Lemmings 2 was a great game, so no complains here.  :-D

Some software to really avoid is space quest 4, where it looks too realistic.  :-D

Quite obviously, it has to be Dangerous Streets.

I agree 110%.  Without a doubt - Dangerous Streets - the worst Amiga game, ever.  I think the bundling of this game in the A1200 magic pack was what finally killed Commodore.  ;-)

Other stinkers I seem to remember include Days of Thunder (though the C64 version was even worse!), Several of the Brutal Sports titles, and Nigel Mansell's Grand Prix.  Even Psygnosis had a few....  Air Support, anyone?  Maybe Combat Air Patrol, as well.   CAP suckered me into an ill-advised purchase.  Amazing demo -- it was fast, beautiful, and playable.  Three things they managed to remove for the full version.

Hrm. Defender of the Crown is one of my favorites. :-/ There was a game I used to truly despise that was similar in gameplay and style to Hudon's Adventure Island on the NES. I can't remember the name. . . .

Come on, you're not even trying. Absolutely horrendous were also:

1. Magic Pockets. Overhyped to the extreme, "developed by a guy with just an A500, A501 and stock A590". Sucked big time: it was nearly impossible to gain sufficient powerups to crank out big whirlwinds at a useful rate. Baddies were way to strong.

2. Whirligig. Beautiful gfx, impossible to play since there is no way people could puzzle out the mathematical issues. They stated the solution in the manual, for cryin' out loud. Also suffered tremendously from its 320x200 screen size where it should've been 320x256 at least.

3. Weird Dreams. A terrific idea with a wonderful story line. Absolutely ruined by the more-than-pixel-precision and way too stringent timing requirements you needed to get past  all levels.

4. Any AMOS-game. 'Nuff said.
Some people say that cats are sneaky, evil and cruel. True, and they have many other fine qualities as well.

I'd remove Weird Dreams from this list. It is hard, but absolutely beautiful.

Those "minesweeper" clones and "memory" type games are crap

I never liked card games either like poker, except maybe for strip one

and of course any text adventure.
Better sorry than worry.

As an old Spectrum user, I have played many of these adventures seen here.

Can't even imagine how many hours I have spent playing them :-D
