Amiga 500 games playable with the keyboard
« on: July 27, 2009, 06:03:10 PM »
hello people!

I've just got my Altera DE1 to work as an Amiga 500 (with the Minimig core), but as you may (or may not) know, this board doesn't have a joystick or double-ps2 connectors, so I am stuck with the keyboard alone. No mouse, no joystick.
These can be added with some fixes, but I want to try some games now.

So, what games can be booted and played with keyboard only on the Amiga 500? Rpgs and platform games are preferred, if you know of some... Amiga has directional keys, so there must be some. No text adventures like Zork, please :(

Thanks! :D

Only games that spring to mind are flight sims (e.g. F19 Stealth Fighter) and pinball games (e.g. Pinball Dreams and Pinball Fantasies).  There may be a few puzzle type games though - but can't think of any at the moment.

North and South works I think?

For that matter, many games that were available on the PC may be controllable on the Amiga keyboard, depending on who ported it. That's the only one I can think of though off hand.

I think 'Skidmarks' used keyboard too.
Better sorry than worry.

"Stunt Car Racer" works fine with KBD only.

Silkworm lets you switch to keyboard controls using the F-keys.

You can also move the mouse pointer around in AmigaOS by holding down the Left-Amiga key and using the arrow keys to move, and Left-Shift to accelerate. This might help with some text based games that still have a menu that needs to be clicked on with the mouse.

Most all of SSI's simulation and D&D games should work with just keyboard control.  If your keyboard has a Number Pad with a NumLoc key the movement will work well from there as diagonal movement is accomplished with the 1,3,7 & 9 numbers, which you cannot do from the cursor keys without wasting additional movement allotment to move up, or down, then over, to get to the same square.

Since they are turn based, not real time, not having a joystick is not a disadvantage to those games.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

You could play street fighter 2 with the keyboard.

Woho!

Thanks for your responses, guys! I'm trying toget the most out of this new Amiga! (an Altera DE1 board with the Minimig core)

And I've jsut known that Tobiflexx is releasing a new core based un Yakub's improved one! The Altera DE1 is becoming more and more a competent Amiga-in-FPGA...without the privative smell of the C-One (but a bit bigger than the grat Minimig) :D

I've also found that MANY games support keyboard: all I've to do is read the game's instructions on Lemon Amiga, and I can find out if the game supports keyboard or not.

Great classics being played in my Altera DE1 Amiga without joystick include Lost Vikings and Rodland... Way to go!!! :D
