Compact Flash IDE
« on: June 24, 2005, 03:33:59 PM »
So I bought one of these: http://cgi.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6776441914&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1 and put it in an 1200 with 256MB SanDisk CF.
I used HDToolbox and changed the Drive Type. I get status Unknown. After reading the configuration I get error "Unit is not a disk (type 7)!"
It reads fine 244 Meg, but after saving to disk the drive does  not show up on the workbench. Low-level formatting has no effect.
What's wrong?

I pulled the jumper off (probably master/slave jumper. No description). The HD-light stayed on and HDToolbox did not recognize the drive.
Then I replaced the jumper and voilĂ : it worked! I installed standard Workbench. Boottime: 6 seconds.

SanDisk seems to be one of the slowest flashcards. I cannot imagine that the capacity of the card has anything to do with that.

Was that with OS3.5/3.9 or just a plain 3.0?

I can get to a WB screen in 3.9 in around 6-7 secs, but I think my 64MB TDK card is one of the slow types.

There are different speeds of CF cards, but like hard drives they should all be backwards compatible. I've seen some advertised as high speed, probably meant for pro photographers etc where they might need to reel off several shots in quick succession.
On schedule, and suing
